…Hwalan’s installation piece “Lightness/Heaviness” invites viewers to wander among three bare hanging sheets of fabric.  Her installation of hammock-like fabric weighed down by the heavy stones explores the tension between lightness and heaviness.

The symbiotic relationship between nature and humans, as well as the body and the hammock, are symbolized by the stones, or “the body”, that loses its heaviness when cradled in the hammock.  The exchange of energy between heaviness and lightness is exemplified in this simple yet elegant installation.
